Providing, maintaining, and promoting the health of the entire population have always been one of the main priorities of health officials and healthcare providers, as the main mission of the Iranian healthcare system.
In addition to general health requirements, different demographic groups have a unique range of needs, proportionate to their specific sexual and age characteristics, so that provision and continuous improvement of their health is impossible without identifying and responding to these needs.
Family is the main unit of society. The Department of Population, Family, and School Health aims at providing, maintaining, and improving the health of the covered population for all target groups (infants, children, youth and adolescents, middle-aged, elderly, and pregnant women). The set of healthcare services include prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of family members in different living conditions, especially the most vulnerable ones, with the aim of reducing the potential of infection and mortality, from infancy to seniority, and promoting the physical and mental development of children, adolescents, and adults in the family.
The main tasks of this department include identifying the potentials of the region, communicating upstream policies to the environment, planning and designing regional policies, planning, monitoring, and participating in staff education and retraining, and increasing health literacy in society, as well as inter- and intra-sectoral coordination, attraction of participation, supervision of the performance of affiliated centers, distribution of funds, monitoring of the costs, data collection and processing, monitoring and evaluation of current programs, and performance of applied research.
Connecting with the private sector, communicating through mass media, preparing and distributing educational pamphlets and booklets, and coordinating with educational centers and other departments and agencies are among policies aimed at providing the best possible services.

The Department of Population, Family, and School Health consists of four groups, the main tasks of which are as follows:
Maternal and Reproductive Health Group
Children and Infant Health Group
Youth, Adolescent, and School Group
