1. Planning to improve the level of oral and dental health in the covered region (urban/rural/suburban areas)
2. Planning, implementing, and monitoring oral and dental health programs and supervising the performance of covered oral and dental healthcare units, as well as specialists in charge of network and covered healthcare centers
3. Assessing the status of the covered units
4. Developing a single strategic and operational plan
5. Monitoring and visiting the covered dentistry departments and providing feedbacks
6. Coordinating and communicating with extra- and inter-sectoral organizations and attracting public participation
7. Coordinating and monitoring purchase and the provision of oral and dental health services
8. Planning and coordinating for the establishment and operation of mobile dental clinics in underprivileged regions covered by the university and providing dental services to patients under the custody of Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation/State Welfare Organization of Iran
9. Publishing data and statistics at the portal of the Ministry of Health and Sib website
10. Planning and implementing applied research projects
11. Determining dental health indicators and developing and upgrading oral and dental hygiene processes
12. Recruiting required contracted and transferred human resources (dentist, interns, and technician)
13. Collecting and analyzing statistics on oral and dental health services
14. Holding and cooperating on planning and implementation of workshops and seminars for the Department of Oral and Dental Health
5- Providing required equipment and supplies for dental units covered by the university (in special cases)
16. Supplying consumables and medication for covered dental units and targeted service groups (in special cases)
17. Providing educational texts for target groups (dentists and oral hygienists, health educators, kindergarten teachers, healthcare supervisors, healthcare providers)

Introducing the group

The mission of this office is to improve dental and health of the target community within the coverage of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Health of the Iran University of Medical Sciences. This requires increasing community awareness about dental and oral health, early referral for treatment, and easy access to dental and oral healthcare services.
While teaching and learning about dental and oral hygiene is very easy, dental and oral diseases are painful and dental care services are very costly. Dental and oral care education can play an important role in public health and households’ economy.
Therefore, this department plans, organizes, and coordinates implementation of programs for effective service and monitors and consistently evaluates the quality of services.
Oral and dental care programs are providers in different places (school and kindergarten, Welfare Organization of Iran, Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation, etc.), taking into account the priority of serving target groups (people under 14 years of age and pregnant and nursing mothers).
In dental units covered by the university, services of level 1 (prevention) and level 2 include examination (screening), health education, repair, pulpotomy, tooth extraction, dental cleansing and brushing, fluoride therapy, and fissure sealant therapy. In the cases where people need specialized services they are referred to other specialists.
 
Level 1 services are provided by dentists, as well as health care providers (Behvarz) in rural healthcare houses and healthcare supervisors (Moraqebin) at comprehensive healthcare centers, health station, and schools. (Examination - Training - Fluoride Therapy)
