General Objectives

The World Health Organization describes health education objectives as follows:
  1. Ensuring that health is accepted as a valuable matter in society
  2. Equipping people with necessary knowledge and skills and influencing their tendencies, so that they can solve their own health problems
  3. Providing necessary conditions for growth of health services
Generally, health education should lead to health deliberation and provide the basis for dynamic and healthy responses. Eventually, it creates such a tendency towards different vital functions that allows a person to eliminate or minimize a significant number of deleterious hazards. In this regard, health education is regarded as one of the factors of the art of life, which aims not only to promote conditions of material life, but also to enhance psychological and social conditions. Accordingly, the main subjects of health education include:
  • Improving societal health literacy by implementing national program of self-care promotion and development and empowering people
  • Creating sensitivity to change and modify the lifestyle
  • Attracting social participation regarding self-care health
  • Promoting health messages among different classes of people
  • Changing societal attitude towards preventing non-communicable diseases
